You cannot reach the highest ranks in Brawlhalla without mastering combos for your favorite weapons. If you’re new to the complex fighting mechanics of Brawlhalla, check out this guide on all major attack notations, weapon combos, and the difference between strings and combos.

Combos have always been a core mechanic of fighting games, and Brawlhalla is no exception. Proper knowledge of combos helps players unleash the true potential of the in-game Legends and weapons.

When you reach higher ranks, combos are largely the deciding factor in battles. To win games in a fast-paced title like Brawlhalla, you need to dodge the enemy attack and deal damage as quickly as possible. This is exactly where combos help you with a reduction in recovery frames (the time after an attack during which your character cannot attack, jump, or dodge).

On that note, here’s every weapon and unarmed combo in Brawlhalla.

What are Brawlhalla combos?

Brawlhalla combos are basically combinations of movements such as dodging, attacking, and jumping. The goal is to perform several movements quickly so that the opponent runs out of time to react.

Brawlhalla movements and their notations

Here’s a list of every movement and attack that you can use to create a combo in Brawlhalla. We’ll be using terminology that is common in the community to make this guide more comprehensible.

Active Input (AI)

Active input in Brawlhalla is a property unique to Battle Boots, Scythes, and certain signature moves. Essentially, it means that holding a direction key after the first attack affects the outcome. Holding the proper directional key completes the combo while holding any other key will have a different outcome.

Light Attacks – Neutral, Side, and Down

  • nLight is a neutral light attack that you perform without moving.
  • sLight is a side light attack that you perform when your character is moving right or left.
  • dLight is a down light attack that you perform when your character is going down.

Air attacks – Neutral, Side, and Down

  • nAir is a neutral light attack in air.
  • sAir is a side light attack in air.
  • dAir is a down light attack in air.

Recovery

  • Rec is an aerial neutral attack that pushes the Legend up.

Ground Pound

  • GP refers to an attack that is initiated in the air. The Legend targets an opponent underneath them with great force and speed.

Signature Attacks

  • nSig is a Signature Attack that you perform without moving.
  • sSig is a Signature Attack that you perform while moving right or left.
  • dSig is a Signature Attack that you perform while moving down.

Ending

  • e is put before a combo if a move should be performed only during the end of an animation. For instance, eAir means that the desired move should take place right when the jump is about to end.

Gravity Cancel

  • GC refers to the player pressing dodge mid-air.

With this terminology, you’ll be able to better understand Brawlhalla combos and how to perform them.

Brawlhalla is a unique fighter game because it grants special abilities and combos to weapons instead of characters. Legends in the game have signature attacks but they aren’t ideal for combos because they push the enemies far away. Accordingly, you’ll observe that they are mostly used as combo finishers.

What is the difference between strings and combos in Brawlhalla?

Strings in Brawlhalla are similar to combos because they are also a combination of different movements. However, an opponent cannot escape from a true combo unless the attacker makes a mistake. On the flip side, you can dodge or jump out of strings.

Clearly, true combos are far more powerful than strings because they are unavoidable if executed perfectly.
