Pokemon Scarlet & Violet brings back the EXP Share mechanic. Here’s all you need to know about how EXP Share works and how to take advantage of it.
The EXP Share feature is available in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, and it’s a sharp contrast to what Pokemon trainers were used to for years when it came to leveling their party up.
In the earlier games, players had to level up all of their Pokemon individually by swapping them in and out for battles or using a game’s scarce supply of Rare Candy.
Nowadays, players are spoiled by EXP Candy, Rare Candy, and EXP Share, with the latter being a divisive point for many fans of the franchise. So let’s run through how this mechanic operates, as well as information on its permanency in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

What is EXP Share in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet?
EXP Share is an automatic mechanic that equally distributes XP won from Pokemon Scarlet & Violet battles across all Pokemon you have equipped in your party.
This makes it so that if you have one or two Pokemon in your party who very rarely get to see any action, or you just want to level up to evolve, then they can earn a good amount of XP at the end of each Pokemon Scarlet & Violet battle too.

How to get EXP Share in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Simply, obtain a second Pokemon for your party, alongside your starter, and EXP Share will trigger and start to dish out XP to both members of your Pokemon Scarlet & Violet party. Even if you only use one Pokemon for an entire fight, all your other trusty creatures will receive the same amount in the game.
Can you turn EXP Share off in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet?
Just like in recent years, Game Freak have made it so that EXP Share cannot be turned off in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, meaning it must be enabled for the duration of your adventure in Paldea.
This has proven to be a hot topic in recent years, with players wanting an option to turn it off, but it is not available in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.
