Pokemon Go enters July 2023 with its Hidden Gems season, and there are still millions of trainers around the world, veterans and newcomers alike, desperately trying to conquer Team Rocket Leader Arlo. Doing so will require a powerful team of Pokemon with high Combat Power levels.

Here’s a list of all the weaknesses and counters that will help you take down Team Rocket Leader Arlo’s July 2023 Pokemon Go lineup that includes Shadow Aipom and other fierce Pokemon.

Arlo is considered the toughest Team Rocket Leader.

How to beat Arlo’s Pokemon in Pokemon Go

Arlo will attack you with any three of the following in Pokemon Go in July 2023:

  • First Battle: Aipom
  • Second Battle: Alakazam / Mismagius / Sharpedo
  • Third Battle: Scizor / Snorlax / Magnezone

Shadow Aipom is guaranteed to be the first Pokemon Arlo uses, so you can always prepare for this opening fight with complete consistency.

For the second battle, he can choose Alakazam, Mismagius, or Sharpedo, giving Arlo some serious wiggle room, and a potential headache for yourself if you’re unprepared for any of them.

Finally, the third Pokemon is yet again a random choice, this time between Snorlax, Magnezone, or Scizor. Again, as long as you know which three foes you could come up against then it gives you ample planning time.

How to counter Arlo’s Shadow Aipom in Pokemon Go

Aipom is Arlo’s pick to open the battle and the reward players can get after defeating him.

Shadow Aipom is a Normal-type Pokemon, which means it’s weak against Fighting-type moves. While it’s not much to work with, the list of resistances is also slim as Aipom can only resist Ghost-type attacks.

So here are some of the best Pokemon to deal with Arlo’s Shadow Aipom:

  • Terrakion with Double Kick and Sacred Sword.
  • Lucario with Counter and Power Up Punch.
  • Conkeldurr with Counter and Dynamic Punch.
  • Tyranitar with Smack Down and Crunch/Stone Edge.
  • Machamp with Counter and Dynamic Punch.

A testing second phase awaits you.

Alakazam

Alakazam is a pure Psychic-type Pokemon that is weak against Bug, Ghost, and Dark-type attacks. It will resist Fighting and Psychic-type moves, so stay away from those categories.

Here are the best counters to deal with Alakazam when battling Arlo in Pokemon Go:

  • Hydreigon with Bite and Brutal Swing.
  • Tyranitar with Smack Down and Brutal Swing.
  • Gengar with Lick and Shadow Ball.
  • Chandelure with Hex and Shadow Ball.
  • Zoroark with Snarl and Foul Play.
  • Pheromosa with Bug Bite and Bug Buzz.

Mismagius

As a pure Ghost-type Pokemon, Mismagius is weak against Dark and Ghost-type moves. Its typing makes it resistant to Fighting, Normal, Bug, and Poison-type attacks, so the same counters for Alakazam can also work well here.

You’ll find some of the best counters to take down Mismagius listed below:

  • Hydreigon with Bite and Brutal Swing.
  • Tyranitar with Smack Down and Brutal Swing.
  • Chandelure with Hex and Shadow Ball.
  • Zoroark with Snarl and Foul Play.
  • Weavile with Snarl and Foul Play.

Sharpedo

Sharpedo is a dual Water and Dark-type Pokemon that’s weak against Fighting, Bug, Grass, Electric, and Fairy-type attacks. While focusing on those types, keep in mind that it’s also resistant to Ghost, Steel, Fire, Water, Ice, Dark, and Psychic-type moves.

That said, here are some of the best counters to take down Arlo’s Sharpedo:

  • Torterra with Razor Leaf and Frenzy Plant.
  • Lucario with Counter and aura Sphere.
  • Conkeldurr with Counter and Dynamic Punch.
  • Machamp with Counter and Cross Chop.

How to counter Arlo’s Snorlax, Magnezone, or Scizor in Pokemon Go

It doesn’t matter who you get for the final portion of the fight, if you bring the right counter, you might survive.

Snorlax

As a pure Normal-type Pokemon, Snorlax is only weak against Fighting-type attacks. That means it can only resist Ghost-type moves. Since you’ll have a Pokemon ready to take down Aipom early, you shouldn’t have much trouble dealing with Snorlax later.

We recommend the following Pokemon and moves to take it on:

  • Terrakion with Double Kick and Sacred Sword.
  • Lucario with Counter and Power Up Punch.
  • Conkeldurr with Counter and Dynamic Punch.
  • Tyranitar with Smack Down and Crunch/Stone Edge.
  • Machamp with Counter and Dynamic Punch.

Magnezone

Magnezone is a dual Steel and Electric-type Pokemon weak against Ground, Fighting, and Fire-type attacks. On the other hand, the list of resistances is quite long as Magnezone can resist Normal, Rock, Bug, Grass, Electric, Psychic, Ice, Dragon, Fairy, Flying, Poison, and Steel-type moves.

While it’s ideal to exploit Pokemon weaknesses when fighting, you should also try to pick Pokemon that work best in more than one battle. In this case, picking a counter only to take down Magnezone doesn’t seem like the best idea unless you go for another Fighting-type Pokemon.

With that said, here are some of the best counters to defeat Arlo’s Magnezone:

  • Mamoswine with Mud Shot and Earthquake.
  • Rhyperior with Mud Slap and Rock Wrecker/Earthquake.
  • Lucario with Counter and Power Up Punch.
  • Conkeldurr with Counter and Dynamic Punch.
  • Excadrill with Mud Slap and Earthquake.

Scizor

Fire is Scizor’s biggest and only weakness in Pokemon Go and none of its attacks are effective against that type. Poison, Grass, Steel, Bug, Dragon, Psychic, Ice, Fairy, and Normal-type attacks won’t be very effective against Scizor because it’s a dual Steel and Bug-type Pokemon.

As for Fire-type Pokemon, there are many great prospects in the game:

  • Arcanine with Fire Fang and Flamethrower.
  • Charizard with Fire Spin and Blast Burn.
  • Darmanitan with Fire Fang and Overheat.
  • Entei with Fire Fang and Overheat.
  • Moltres with Fire Spin and Overheat.

Best team to defeat Arlo in Pokemon Go

Some teams that should be able to beat Arlo’s lineup in almost every situation should feature some of the following: Machamp, Chandelure, Pheromosa, Tyranitar, and Charizard.

Having a Fighting-type and a Ghost-type Pokemon is a great play to corner Arlo.

How to beat Team Rocket Leaders in Pokemon Go

It’s not just Arlo that you’ll have to fight in Pokemon Go as there are other Team Rocket Pokemon Go Leaders for you to tackle head-on, and this includes other tough foes in Cliff and Sierra.

After defeating them, the ultimate challenge is to defeat Giovanni, and here’s how you can beat Giovanni in Pokemon Go.
